We named it Village Idiot on purpose.
The name comes from my father's art brand, Village Idiot Artworks. He chose it as a statement — the village idiot was historically the one person who said what everyone else was thinking but wouldn't say out loud. That felt right for a technology company built on honest advice, straight talk, and no pretense.
Built from the inside out.
My name is Dylan Williams. I've spent nearly two decades managing technology for businesses across Napa Valley and Sonoma — hotels, wineries, restaurants, nonprofits, medical practices, and more. Before that, I spent years behind the bar.
That combination isn't accidental. Working in hospitality taught me things about operations, urgency, and what it actually feels like when technology fails at the worst possible moment that no amount of IT certifications could have. When a POS goes down during a Saturday dinner rush, the person on the other end of the phone needs to understand what that means — not just technically, but operationally. I do.
I started Village Idiot Technologies because the businesses I care most about — the hotels, wineries, restaurants, and nonprofits that make this valley what it is — deserved better than what the market was offering. A local company. A single point of contact. Someone who picks up the phone, knows your environment, and is accountable for the outcome.
I've managed technology for multi-property hotel groups scaling through openings and acquisitions, 200-person wineries navigating international ownership transitions, veterinary companies growing from three locations to fifteen, nonprofit boards making their first real technology investments, and homeowners who just need someone they can trust to show up and handle it.
All of it, in wine country. All of it, as the person accountable.
The Team
Small by design. Capable by experience.
Village Idiot Technologies operates as a boutique practice — intentionally. We work with a trusted network of technical and operational collaborators who share the same standards for responsiveness, honesty, and follow-through. When your engagement requires additional hands, we bring in people we've worked with personally and would stake our reputation on.
You will always have a single point of contact. You will always know who is responsible for your account. That doesn't change as we grow.
How we work
-
Straight talk
We tell you what you actually need — not what generates the largest proposal. If the answer is simple, we'll tell you it's simple. If it's complicated, we'll tell you that too, and explain why.
-
Community first
We're active members of Rotary, BNI, multiple local chambers, and Young Professionals Napa Valley — not as a marketing exercise, but because we believe in this place and the people who make it run. That's not going to change.
-
Long relationships
Our best client relationships are measured in years, not projects. We're not optimizing for the close — we're optimizing for the kind of work that earns a referral five years from now.
Let's get to know each other.
The best client relationships start with a honest conversation. Tell us what you're dealing with and we'll tell you honestly whether we're the right fit.
